Everyone's a first-timer this year, so we wanted to give you a few tips for navigating the virtual platform before PastForward Online 2020 kicks off.

First, access our virtual platform on your laptop or desktop. If this is your first time accessing, you'll be asked to provide your email address and create a password.

  • TIP: Chrome works best.

You can also download the PastForward Online 2020 mobile app, powered by Socio.

  • TIP: The mobile app is great for chatting with other attendees. Feel free to use both the app and the web-based virtual platform.

Once the app is installed or you've accessed the desktop version, log in using the same email address you used to register. After you have logged in, you can create your personal profile, view the schedule, connect with other attendees, and more:

How do I view the conference sessions?

You are welcome to view the sessions on your computer, tablet, or via the mobile app.

Each session will have its own button ("View Livestream" button) to click into the session. Select the session on the web platform (computer) or mobile app (iPhone or Android) when it's time to join the session. Once the session has concluded, you will leave that session and go to the next session.

The "View Livestream" button will appear on the session 15 minutes before the session start time. The session will open up about 2 minutes before the session begins. All times listed are Eastern time. If you are in a different time zone, the virtual platform will also show your local time zone.

We are using Zoom to host the livestream for each session. The Zoom app is not required if participating in the conference via the browser on your laptop or desktop but is required to participate in the conference on a mobile device. You can test your Zoom compatibility of your device at any time with this Zoom test meeting https://zoom.us/test.

  • Mobile device: If you do not have the Zoom app installed, you will be asked to download the app when you click the link to join your first session. You only need to do this once.
  • Computer: If you are accessing the virtual platform via the browser on your computer and do not have the Zoom app installed, the Zoom web app will work.

  • If possible, we recommend downloading the latest version of Zoom ahead of time for maximum flexibility. Find all available Zoom downloads on their website. (https://zoom.us/download)

If you are having difficulty accessing the virtual platform or joining a session, here are a few things to try:

Tips for iPhone and iPad Users:

The PastForward Online 2020 app will only work if you downloaded or updated it after 6 PM ET on Tuesday, October 27. If you downloaded it before then, please manually update the app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Here’s how:

    • Open the App Store, then tap your profile icon at the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
    • Scroll down to see the available pending updates, looking for the “PastForward2020” app.
    • Tap Update next to the PastForward2020 app to update only that app, or tap Update All.

Users of iPhones and iPads (as well as all attendees) may also access the virtual platform via the browser on your laptop, desktop, tablet or phone, without downloading the conference app. Here’s how:

    • Open your web browser.
    • Type savingplaces.org/socio into the browser window (in the box that says, “Search or enter website name”) and click enter.
    • Log in using the email address you used to register for the conference. If this is your first time accessing the platform, you'll be asked to provide your email address and create a password.
    • Once you’re logged in, you’re all set. (You can ignore the instruction at the top of the screen that says, “Download the app.”)
