A Pattern Language for Climate-Friendly Adaptive Reuse
This session will illustrate and analyze inherent climate-adaptive features of old and historic places, including buildings, building components, streets and courtyards, and propose patterns for successfully enhancing them as they are adapted for new uses. The Patterns will emphasize preservation friendly retrofit strategies to reduce carbon footprint and will be based on the model and methodology created by Christopher Alexander and his colleagues in their Pattern Language work, an illustrated encyclopedia of detailed patterns for the creation and modification of the built environment.
