Zoar Closer to National Historic Landmark Status

November 19, 2015 by Jennifer Sandy

Earlier this month, the Village of Zoar moved one step closer to being designated as a National Historic Landmark. The Landmarks Committee of the National Park Service recommended approval of Zoar’s NHL nomination. It now goes to the NPS Advisory Board, with a final decision expected next spring. This designation would be a long-overdue recognition of the Village of Zoar’s significance as one of America’s most important and influential utopian communal societies. The National Trust wrote a letter of support for the NHL nomination and looks forward to celebrating the Village’s designation next spring, fingers crossed!
