Behind the Scenes in Hot Springs, Arkansas

Our travel feature in the Fall issue of Preservation magazine puts the spotlight on Hot Springs, Ark., an unexpected gem in the Ouachita Mountains where thermal waters played a huge role in the city's past -- and are now influencing its future.

As you'll read in Preservation, Hot Springs was once a hub for sports icons, movie stars, and gangsters -- as well as anyone who wanted to enjoy a therapeutic soak at any of the luxury bathhouses around town. Known as "America's Spa City" in its heyday, today Hot Springs is taking its beautiful, ornate buildings and reimagining their use. The results? A modern-day spa, museum, visitor center -- even a brewery!
