Preservation Personals: A Berkshire Beauty in Great Barrington, Massachusetts
I am a circa-1800 Greek Revival house located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, a town nestled in the scenic and serene Berkshire Mountains, an area known for its great food and cultural attractions. While I have easy access to the road, I sit on over three acres of land, providing privacy and that green serenity only the mountains can offer.
While people don't typically think of the mountains as having much to offer beyond peace and quiet, there's plenty to do around here. Next door is the Guthrie Center, a community and cultural space in a historic church, and minutes away are regional arts staples, the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center and Tanglewood Music Center. Close by is the town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, which features numerous museums, from the Norman Rockwell Museum to the National Trust's own historic site, Chesterwood.
Don't let my grand, columned porch intimidate you: I'm as cozy as I am impressive. Large windows, including some bay windows, provide a wonderful atmosphere for you to relax in. My rooms are expansive, especially my kitchen, which offers walls of cabinetry and a huge butler's pantry. An enclosed porch out back looks out towards the Berkshires. Many historic built-in cupboards and drawers remain throughout the house, as do pine and fir floors and fireplaces, some of which are now equipped with gas.
Eight bedrooms and five bathrooms provide plenty of space for friends, family ... or maybe even a bed and breakfast. Two staircases allow easy access to different parts of my expansive floor plan. A number of outbuildings provide space for hobbies and storage, including a four-car garage and a two-story barn complete with stalls and a hay loft.
