Preservation Personals: A Charming Connecticut Queen Anne

  • By: Rebecca Gale

With my cheerful exterior and beautifully detailed interior, I embody the coziness and careful craftsmanship of a classic Queen Anne Victorian home. Located in the Hazardville Historic District within the town of Enfield, Connecticut, I am a National Register-listed property that has been carefully maintained to preserve my small-town New England charm.

I was built in 1888 by New York’s Palliser, Palliser & Co., and my most recent residents took special care to restore and renovate me, preserving my beautiful historic details, like carved wooden door and window trim and pocket doors, while updating my plumbing, heating, and electrical, and installing a new roof and windows.

Other modern touches include a bright, spacious kitchen with custom cabinetry and stainless steel appliances, including an induction range, with an adjoining dining area and walk-in pantry. My third floor has been converted to an expansive 900-square-foot master suite, with an en suite bathroom featuring a two-head shower and jetted tub.

If my historic charm is drawing you in, don’t worry—I’ve still got plenty of that! Right when you swing open my cheery yellow door, you’ll be awed by my grand wooden staircase, complete with a stained glass window on the landing, and library niche, with room for a home office or mudroom setup.

From there, you can explore my elegant parlor, formal dining room, and sitting room, each crowned with large windows, bold wallpaper, wood floors, and chandeliers. Need a place to store your grandmother’s china? My dining room and butler’s pantry feature large built-in glass display cabinets.

Twenty minutes south of Springfield, Massachusetts, and 30 minutes from Hartford, Connecticut, I am not too out of the way, but my almost 400-foot-deep fenced backyard sheltered by shady trees and double-level front porch will provide moments of rural rest and relaxation. A backyard deck and fire pit provide additional opportunities for entertaining or bonding with family.

Adorable and affordable, I offer a peaceful, private escape with my old-time elegance and small-town setting. Interested? Click here for more pictures and my full listing.
