Preservation Personals: Victorian Charm Abounds at 1890s House in Mississippi Waterfront Town
I am a delightful Victorian-style home located in the city of Bay St. Louis on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Built in the 1890s, my most recent owner meticulously renovated me over the last 15 years to make my quaint interior shine again while maintaining an authentic historical feel. Mere blocks from the waterfront, I am a short walk away from restaurants, the beach, and a fishing pier. My neighborhood also has easy access to the highway and is an hour’s drive from New Orleans.
If it's curb appeal you’re looking for, I’m absolutely charming, with my bold royal blue shutters, elegant columned porch, and hanging porch swing. My Cypress custom cabinets, crown molding, trim, and baseboards were all crafted or restored by my last owner using wood milled on site. You will love all the thoughtful decorative touches throughout my rooms, like stained glass panels, chandeliers, wall sconces, and best of all, an original pressed tin ceiling in the front parlor.
Transom windows and interior double doors add to my historic flavor, as do carefully chosen period plumbing fixtures, hinges, locks, handles, and door knobs, all of which are either antiques or reproductions of period fixtures. Heart pine hardwood floors, period-inspired wallpaper, and painted wainscoting make my rooms a treat for the eye. If you’re a fan of a bubble bath, you might enjoy soaking away the stress of a long day in my antique claw-foot tubs, left over from my early years, which have been restored to look like new.
A spacious family room with large windows overlooking the yard and a rustic stone wood-burning fireplace provide a lovely space for romantic nights in or making s’mores with the family. My carriage house offers a large loft space perfect for guests, with its own kitchen, bathroom, and a separate air conditioning system.
