Twitter Chat Recap/Reminder: Conferences and International Preservation
In what might be the timeliest Twitter chat recap since #builtheritage launched, I'm sharing highlights from our October 2nd conversation about preservation-friendly conferences just as I am heading off to the National Preservation Conference in Indianapolis. And while that wasn't our only topic -- we also talked about conferences in affiliated fields, unconferences, live-tweeting conference sessions, and more -- it did loom large over the chat.
One key moment of the last chat before the conference every year is the announcement of the annual tweet-up, which as it happens, will be taking place tonight (Wed., October 30). Everyone is welcome, whether you've participated on the chat before or been waiting to meet some of us "IRL" first.
Please join us at our third annual #builtheritage tweet-up tonight at 7:15. We'll be gathering upstairs at the Athenaeum -- the site of the opening reception -- at the maroon banquettes.
Our next chat is coming up soon -- November 6 at 4:00 p.m. EST, to be specific. We'll be looking at international preservation this time around, inspired by the current issue of Forum Journal.
Here's how to participate:
1. Sign in to Twitter, or into a chat-specific site such as TweetChat, tchat.io, or twubs.com. (Using a chat site allows you to filter just the chat-specific hashtag, and also appends it to any tweets you send, allowing for a more streamlined experience.)
2. Follow and tweet with the hashtag #builtheritage.
3. Watch for the questions in the Q1 format. Provide answers using the A1 format, and interact with other participants using replies and retweets.
The Q1/A1 format is this: Questions (we usually have six per chat) are posed by the moderators as Q1, Q2, Q3,etc. about every 10 minutes. We ask that chatters reply with A1, A2, etc. to help everyone stay clear on what they’re responding to. A lot of side conversations and tangents still break out, but it helps keep things at least a little organized.Hope to see a lot of you at the tweet-up tonight, or talk with you on next week's chat!
