Last week, the House passed three FY 2026 spending bills, including funding for the Department of the Interior. It now goes to the Senate for their consideration and final passage.

Unfortunately, a math error in the House bill language resulted in lower funding for the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) than initially reported. The Senate is expected to correct the total to $181.059 million—a strong investment that would also extend HPF authorization for one year and maintain near-level funding for the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

But none of this is guaranteed.

HPF funding expires January 30. Without clear support from advocates like you, this progress could stall. Communities across the country depend on preservation to drive economic revitalization, protect local history, and strengthen civic life.

Take action today. Your voice matters. Let’s ensure preservation funding doesn’t stall when our communities need it most.

Speak Up for the Historic Preservation Fund! Urge your members of Congress to do their part to preserve the full history of our nation and the many important stories that contribute to the American experience.
