Take Action to Protect the Greater Chaco Cultural Landscape

The Greater Chaco Cultural Landscape holds deep cultural, spiritual, and historical significance to many Pueblos and Native American communities.
Today, that incredible landscape is at risk.
The Bureau of Land Management initiated a process to fully revoke PLO No. 7923, which had placed a ban on new leasing for gas and mineral extraction.
Without this protection, lands outside the park boundaries could open to oil and gas development, risking irreversible damage to irreplaceable cultural sites and the broader landscape that gives them meaning.
Public advocacy by supporters like you can make a difference, and public lands like the Greater Chaco Cultural Landscape need your voice now more than ever.
Let your elected officials know that you support preserving these sacred landscapes. Ask them to support the Chaco Culture Heritage Areas Protection Act and oppose policies to rescind PLO No. 7923.
The Greater Chaco Cultural Landscape was named to the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places list in 2011 and again in 2026 due to these significant ongoing threats.
