VIDEO: Preserving the A.G. Gaston Hotel

July 25, 2025 by Brent Leggs

Understanding history through books or documentaries is one thing, but experiencing it in the very spaces where history was made is a profound, transformative experience.

Take the A.G. Gaston Motel, for example—a place where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Reverend Ralph Abernathy, and other civil rights leaders gathered during the Birmingham Campaign in the 1960s.

Standing in the same rooms where these great activists strategized and made pivotal decisions brings a new level of connection to that history, allowing us to feel the weight of their courage and determination.

Historic sites like the A.G. Gaston Motel are more than just places; they are living testaments to the struggles and victories that shaped our nation, offering a tangible link to the past that cannot be fully captured in words.
