Main Street America is proud to recognize NewTown Macon in Macon, Georgia, Madison Main Street Program in Madison, Indiana, and Monroeville Main Street in Monroeville, Alabama, as the 2024 Great American Main Street Award winners. This prestigious award is the nation’s top honor recognizing communities for their excellence in comprehensive preservation-based commercial district revitalization. The 2024 GAMSA designations were presented during the Main Street Now Conference in Birmingham, Alabama.

“Macon, Madison, and Monroeville serve as exemplary models for reenergizing downtown districts through collective action,” commented Main Street America President and CEO Erin Barnes. “While each organization is unique in their approach, they all demonstrate excellence in fostering vibrant, welcoming downtowns through grassroots economic development, preservation with a purpose, and creative problem solving.”

Main Street America has announced River District Association in Danville, Virginia; Downtown Florence Main Street in Florence, South Carolina; and Metuchen Downtown Alliance (MDA) in Metuchen, New Jersey as winners of the 2023 Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA). This prestigious award is the nation’s top award recognizing communities for their excellence in comprehensive preservation-based commercial district revitalization. The 2023 GAMSA designations, sponsored by The Hartford, were presented during the opening plenary for the Main Street Now Conference in Boston, Massachusetts.

“Danville, Florence, and Metuchen demonstrate that our collaborative, grassroots approach to commercial district revitalization is a powerful tool for uplifting communities,” said Main Street America Interim President and CEO, Hannah White. “Each organization’s story and work are unique, however the 2023 GAMSA winners all demonstrate excellence in creating welcoming downtowns through representative leadership, innovative programming, and inclusive economic development.”

The 2022 GAMSA designations, sponsored by The Hartford, were presented at the opening plenary for the 2022 Main Street Now conference, in Richmond, Virginia.
