Auburn was the first of the large mansions to be built with architectural orders in Natchez, Mississippi. The 12-room mansion was built of brick kilned on the property and accented with Ionic columns and double galleries. Also recently restored and open to the public is our 2 story brick detached kitchen and slave quarters. Completed in 1812 by architect Levi Weeks for Boston attorney Lyman Harding, the show piece of Auburn is its original wooden free standing spiral staircase—one of only a few in the United States. Listed on the National Historic Registry since 1975, Auburn is open for tours year-round.
