Reviews

Historic Fort Steuben is a fully reconstructed 18th-century fort on its original site overlooking the Ohio River in Steubenville, Ohio. From 1786-1787, it housed the 1st American Regiment and the surveyors who were assigned the task of surveying the newly acquired Northwest Territory.

Based on letters and maps left by commander Captain John Francis Hamtramck and evidence from the ongoing archaeology dig, the fort today presents an experience of life on the early Ohio frontier. Knowledgeable and entertaining interpreters as well as self-guided tours are available. The Fort Steuben Visitor Center offers historical exhibits throughout the year.
