Reviews

Magnolia Grove, a classic Greek Revival house, was built circa 1840 for Isaac and Sarah Croom. After their deaths, Sallie Pearson Hobson, a niece, purchased the house. Sallie married James Hobson of Davie County, North Carolina, in 1867. Richmond Pearson Hobson, their second child, became a hero of the Spanish-American War and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. After resigning from the Navy in 1903, Richmond served as a US Congressman from 1906-1914. Margaret Hobson, having arranged the have the house preserved as a memorial to her brother, deeded Magnolia Grove to the State of Alabama in 1943.
