Built in 1870 by Antonio Peralta, Peralta Hacienda brings Spanish-speaking California to life on the cusp of a new era after the Gold Rush. The Peralta family settlers were part of the infamous de Anza expedition from Mexico to California. Upon settling in what is now Oakland, they built adobes on a vast Spanish land grant. The adobes, later destroyed by an earthquake, were replaced by the Italianate Victorian farmhouse known as the Peralta House, which now serves as a historic house museum. On the National Register of Historic Places, the Peralta Hacienda Historical Park and Museum is a community park and a landmark of Latino heritage.
