Built by Charles Washington, George Washington's younger brother, around 1760 to be his home, this frame building became a tavern in 1792 in the bustling city of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Purchased by the Wallace family, it operated as a tavern for 35 years as a stopover for travelers. Preservation Virginia acquired the tavern in 1907 and completed a full restoration of the building in 1930s, and much of its original woodwork survives to this day. Rising Sun Tavern is now owned and operated by Washington Heritage Museums.
