Historic Bars

Raise a glass to places with history

You might not know it, but preservation has a party side—and it's on full display at old, historic, and legacy bars across the country. In our Historic Bars series, we belly up to the places that only locals usually know about and introduce their favorite haunts to all our readers.

Our virtual bar crawl has covered historic taverns and inns, speakeasies, tiki huts, sports bars, dive bars, bars with film or other pop-culture references, and more. Our ongoing bender even included two Big Tap: Historic Bars Tournaments, ultimately crowning the Corner Club in Moscow, Idaho, and Club Moderne in Anaconda, Montana, as America's favorite historic bars.

Follow along to discover some of the coolest historic watering holes this great nation has to offer. Have an old or historic bar of your own to serve? Send your suggestion to editorial@savingplaces.org. Bottoms up!

This May, our Preservation Month theme is “People Saving Places” to shine the spotlight on everyone doing the work of saving places—in big ways and small—and inspiring others to do the same!
