LULAC Council 60 Clubhouse designated a City of Houston Protected Landmark

October 15, 2020

At the Houston City Council meeting on October 7, 2020, the LULAC Council 60 Clubhouse application for City of Houston Protected Landmark designation was unanimously approved. Achieving this designation was a key component of our work with the National Treasure campaign and for the future of this structure in a rapidly developing area of demolition-friendly Houston.

When approving the designation, the council members also acknowledged the many important contributions of LULAC and Council 60 in particular, and the significance of achieving this landmark during Hispanic Heritage Month.

LULAC Council 60 and their affiliated non-profit, C60 Inc. are continuing stabilization work on the house after completing foundation and roof stabilization this spring. They continue to chart a path to fully restore the house and bring it back into use for the council and the community.
