HOPE Crew
Hampton National Historic Site
Hampton National Historic Site, located near Towson, MD, is the site of a preserved 18th century estate. The 62-acre park unit contains what are considered to be the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the United States. A park this size has regular routine maintenance and repair needs. That’s when a group of seven architecture students from Morgan State University, recruited by Civic Works, to participate in the HOPE Crew project answered the call for assistance.
Students working on this HOPE Crew took on two separate projects at Hampton: replacing the stone surface of the Heartshape Drive Entrance of the estate's Historic Entrance Drive, as well as repairing woodwork on the porches of a historic farmhouse.

“I find it interesting when we were demolishing the porches, because I get to see how the structure was built because in architecture when you design, you don't so much think about how it will be built.”
