HOPE Crew
Keweenaw National Historical Park
Members from SEEDs Youth Conservation Corps completed a project on Michigan's Upper Peninsula that included stabilization and repairs of historic chimneys on eight cabin camp buildings. The work included partial dismantling, selective stone/brick replacement and reconstruction throughout the cabin camps at Keweenaw National Historical Park.
Deteriorated or loose mortar will be removed from existing joints and re-pointed with park approved mortar to prevent water infiltration. The mortar caps will be replaced and all copper flashing will be cut into the mortar joints.
The project was overseen by preservation experts and funded by the National Park Service.
