Grant Funding Supports Education, Energy Assessments, and Workshops

National Trust Awards $331,554 in Grant Funding to 63 Organizations Nationwide

The National Trust Preservation Fund, the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s small-dollar grant program, has been providing catalytic funding to organizations across the country for over 50 years. In the June round, the National Trust received 90 eligible applications and awarded $331,554 in grants to 63 organizations in 29 states and the District of Columbia. Main Street Eureka Springs | Eureka Springs, Arkansas
$5,000 to support an initiative for 5th-10th graders to learn the importance of preserving stories and the built environment.

Poston Community Alliance | Phoenix, Arizona
$5,000 to develop educational curriculum on the Poston Incarceration Site and the co-existence of the Japanese American and Native American communities during WWII.

Arizona Preservation Foundation | Phoenix, Arizona
$10,000 to perform legal research on the impact of the Arizona Private Property Rights Protection Act on local preservation regulations.

Douglas Flat Community Center | Douglas Flat, California
$5,000 to consult with a specialist on historic dance floors for the 170-year-old Douglas Flat Schoolhouse that needs foundation stabilization.

California Preservation Foundation | San Francisco, California
$5,000 to support Doors Open California, an annual statewide outreach event to promote over 100 historic and culturally rich places to the public.

The Evergreen Chorale | Evergreen, Colorado
$8,796 to support an architectural assessment of the historic Center Stage Theater, a 100-year-old building in need of repairs.

FDR Memorial Legacy Committee | Washington, DC
$5,000 to support the organization in its next phase of historic preservation goal setting, including engagement with the National Park Service.

Hillwood Estate, Museums & Gardens in Washington, DC will use $5,000 to perform an energy assessment of the Hillwood Mansion. Hillwood served as the home of influential socialite, philanthropist, and art collector Marjorie Merriweather Post, one of the wealthiest women in the United States during the early 20th century. The main mansion was designed by prominent architect John Russell Pope. Completed in 1926, the mansion exemplifies the neoclassical style prevalent in elite residences of the era.

President Lincoln’s Cottage at the Soldiers’ Home | Washington, DC
$10,000 to support President Lincoln’s Cottage’s Task Force on Revenue Generating Initiatives to engage experts on maximizing and creating new earn income streams to create a more sustainable future for the organization.

Bethel AME Church | Smyrna, Delaware
$10,000 to support architectural and engineering designs for the stabilization of the east and west walls of the Bethel AME Church’s main sanctuary.

City of Colbert | Colbert, Georgia
$4,300 to fund a conditions assessment for the 1924 Colbert School auditorium, which contains many original features such as wainscotting, wood folding seats, and casement windows.

Donkey Mill Art Center | Holualoa, Hawai’i
$5,000 to conduct a feasibility study for the Donkey Mill Art Center Master Campus Plan.

Haleiwa Waialua Historical Society | Waialua, Hawai’i
$3,000 to hire a commercial real estate consultant for the preservation of the Waialua Agriculture Co. Office building.

Preservation Idaho/Idaho Historical Preservation Council | Boise, Idaho
$5,000 to expand outreach and education efforts to preserve Idaho’s historic neighborhoods using immersive virtual experiences.

IDEAS xLab | Louisville, Kentucky
$3,929 to support a ground-penetrating radar project at the St. Louis Cemetery, where 1,633 mostly unmarked graves of Black Catholics buried between 1867-1937 are located.

City of Park City | Park City, Kentucky
$5,000 to conduct interviews and research into the city's first bank, Park City Bank, to develop a strategic plan on future restorations.

Gateway Regional Arts Center | Mt. Sterling, Kentucky
$5,000 to fund a Historic Conditions Report for the stained-glass windows in the former Mt. Sterling Methodist Episcopal Church and educational programming leading up to the windows’ bicentennial in 2027.

Enzweiler Building Institute | Erlanger, Kentucky
$9,250 to fund hands-on training in historic trades through the stabilization of the historic Colonial Inn.

Middlesboro Jewish Cemetery | Middlesboro, Kentucky
$7,250 to repair the original wrought iron perimeter fencing and recondition the headstones and footstones of the nearly 100 burials at the Middlesboro Jewish Cemetery.

Sanctuary Arts School | Shreveport, Louisiana
$5,000 to hire a fundraising consultant to assist with raising the more than $6 million needed to restore the historic B’nai Zion Temple.

The Woman’s Exchange, Hermann-Grima and Gallier Historic Houses | New Orleans, Louisiana
$5,000 to update the conditions assessment and maintenance plan for the Hermann-Grima and Gallier Houses and launch a paid internship program for architectural preservation.

Swampscott Historical Commission | Swampscott, Massachusetts
$5,000 to produce an economic feasibility study for adaptive reuse of the General John Glover Farmhouse, the c. 1750 home of a Revolutionary War veteran.

Captain Robert Bennet Forbes House Museum | Milton, Massachusetts
$3,842 to support preservation programs centered on the restoration of the Forbes House Museum with speakers, tours, and a family architectural scavenger hunt.

Heart of Ellsworth | Ellsworth, Maine
$5,000 to conduct community engagement work for the historic district nomination for downtown Ellsworth for inclusion in the National Register.

Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church | Minneapolis, Minnesota
$2,500 to support the Minnesota Black Church History Preservation Project, which collects, preserves, and disseminates historical materials related to Black churches in the Twin Cities.

The Frank Lloyd Wright House in Ebsworth Park | St. Louis, Missouri
$5,000 to support design planning for a new roof that reflects the cultural heritage and future sustainability of the Frank Lloyd Wright House.

Warrensburg Main Street Inc. | Warrensburg, Missouri
$5,000 to hire a real estate consultant to conduct a property assessment and financial analysis of the rehabilitation of the historic Star Theater.

The New Bern Masonic Theater Historic Preservation Foundation | New Bern, North Carolina
$5,000 to fund a preservation consultant to determine the renovations needed to restore St. John’s Masonic Lodge and Theater, built in 1808.

Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice | Durham, North Carolina
$4,600 to develop a change management strategy to strengthen the organization’s internal capacity to shift from a grassroots preservation project to a visitor-ready cultural center.

Preservation New Jersey | West Trenton, New Jersey
$5,000 to support a year-long calendar of professional development workshops to bring awareness of New Jerson’s historic resources.

San Felipe de Neri Parish Church | Albuquerque, New Mexico
$5,000 to hire a historic architect to develop the design and construction documents for adaptive reuse of the San Felipe Carriage House into a life museum of Sister Blandina.

Center for Social Sustainable Systems | Albuquerque, New Mexico
$4,000 to expand the place-based Acequia Education program to include younger generations in the South Valley.

San Juan County Museum Association | Bloomfield, New Mexico
$3,000 to conduct a condition assessment for the structural stabilization of Salmon Ruins, an 11th century masonry pueblo affiliated with the Chaco culture of the northern Southwest.

The Fullerton Mansion Center for Culture and History | Newburgh, New York
$5,000 to demystify the Architectural Review Commission process with bilingual resources and outreach to assist residents in Newburgh, the second largest historic district in New York.

Hopeprint Inc. | Syracuse, New York
$5,000 to support the establishment of a cultural heritage district in the Northside neighborhood of Syracuse.

Adirondack Architectural Heritage | Keeseville, New York
$1,662 to support a hands-on gravestone restoration workshop at the historic Pine Ridge cemetery that will teach best practices to help protect historic cemeteries.

United Palace of Spiritual Arts | New York, New York
$5,000 to complete plans to restore the 94-year-old terra cotta, bricks, and mortar of the landmark United Palace theatre in Washington Heights.

Friends of the Olmsted-Beil House | Staten Island, New York
$5,000 to develop a Historic Landscape Preservation Plan for the Olmsted-Beil House, constructed c. 1685.

Canton Palace Theatre | Canton, Ohio
$3,600 to support plans for the interior design and restoration of the Canton Palace Theatre, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026.

Oklahoma Black Living Legacy, Inc. | Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
$5,000 to support an advocacy and public engagement campaign to raise awareness of the importance of preserving Black historical sites in Oklahoma City.

Weston Area Development Association | Weston, Oregon
$3,065 to support a historic structure report for the Isham Saling House, the largest historic brick house in Weston, built in 1880.

Willamette Heritage Center | Salem, Oregon
$5,000 to perform a historic building condition assessment for 11 structures at the Willamette Heritage Center, where visitors can learn about the culture and economy developed through Western expansion and industrialization of the woolen mill.

Capitol Theater Center Foundation | Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
$3,825 to support the interior patching, painting and wallpaper restoration of the majestic 730-seat Capitol Theatre Center.

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library | Waynesboro, Pennsylvania
$5,385 to repair the original woodwork, stone wall, porch roof and flooring of the historic Alexander Hamilton House.

Washington Memorial Heritage | Valley Forge, Pennsylvania
$5,000 to develop a Wayfinding Program for the Washington Memorial Chapel, a complex of multiple structures containing historic art and architecture situated on a 46-acre campus.

Friends of Historic Heishman’s Mill in Carlisle, Pennsylvania will use $9,000 to draft a preservation plan for the adaptive reuse of Heishman’s Mill into a community resource. From 1807-1957, Heishman’s Mill served rural West Pennsboro Township between 1807-1957 as a gristmill, distillery, sawmill, plaster mill, and a post office. The site retains a full complement of machinery equipment, an intact mill dam, pond, and raceway.

Fairmount Park Conservancy | Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
$3,700 to lead a series of homeowner workshops to long-time residents in Strawberry Mansion and East Parkside, two underserved Philadelphia communities, on how to preserve the historic elements of their homes and create intergenerational wealth.

Battle of Rhode Island Association | Portsmouth, Rhode Island
$5,000 to support projects using digital archaeology and visual anthropology to create educational displays and resources for future visitors of the Butts Hill Fort.

Providence Preservation Society | Providence, Rhode Island
$5,000 to produce two zines that connect new and diverse audiences with preservation practices, including a community toolkit and a manual on historic window maintenance.

Stages of Freedom | Providence, Rhode Island
$5,000 to support students from Classical High School in a community-based project to research Rudolph Fisher, which will become the basis of text for historical markers on landmarks connected to Fisher’s advancements as a leading figure during the Harlem Rennaissance.

The Friends of Fort Fremont Historical Park, Inc. | St. Helena Islands, South Carolina
$10,000 to conduct a feasibility study to improve the visitor safety and experience at Fort Fremont’s Battery Jesup.

Clemson University | Clemson, South Carolina
$5,000 to support educational programming during the 30th anniversary of the Hanover House’s opening as a historic house museum in the South Carolina Botanical Garden.

Conway Architectural Salvage and Heritage Project | Conway, South Carolina
$5,000 to fund a historic structure report for the Icehouse property, established in 1946 by a WWII veteran that has functioned as an economic pillar in Conway.

Friends of the Cape Romain Lighthouses | McClellanville, South Carolina
$5,000 to fund engineering design work for upcoming masonry repairs to the 1857 Cape Romain Lighthouse.

Goodwill Educational and Historical Society | Gable, South Carolina
$3,250 to support activities that engage multigenerational audiences in promoting preservation and the historical significance of the Goodwill Parochial School.

Property Power and Preservation (P3) | Memphis, Tennessee
$5,000 to support the architectural costs of the first phase of restoring the Griggs Business and Practical Arts College, initially one of only three Black owned colleges in Memphis founded c. 1916 by Emma Griggs.

Friends of Mill Ridge Park | Antioch, Tennessee
$5,000 to plan the design and development of old farmland and extant farm structures into a community space for events and programs.

Webber Family Preservation Project | Forth Worth, Texas
$5,000 to support the expansion of the “Freedom Papers” exhibit at the Dolph Briscoe Center, which documents the lives of those buried in the historic Webber Cemetery, a stop on the Underground Railroad into Mexico.

Preservation Houston | Houston, Texas
$5,000 to develop a certification course for Houston realtors focused on understanding the ins and outs of historic houses, historic districts, and local preservation laws.

Bears Ears Partnership | Bluff, Utah
$10,000 to facilitate Tribal visits and gatherings to The Lands Between, a cultural landscape that connects Chaco Canyon, Mesa Verde, Canyons of the Ancients, and Bears Ears, to advance heritage protection, collaborative research on sensitive sites, and opportunities for descendent communities to participate in the stewardship of cultural resources.

Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in Historic Preservation | Seattle, Washington
$5,000 to support the planning and coordination of sessions, hands-on workshops, immersive tours, and cultural experiences focused on historic preservation within Asian and Pacific Islander American communities at the 2024 APIAHiP National Forum.

Historic Seattle | Seattle, Washington
$5,000 to update and create new agreements and governing procedures among the partner organizations that operate in the Washington Hall, a community space for arts and culture in Seattle’s Central District.

Door County Historical Society | Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin
$3,600 to develop a public fundraising campaign for a restoration and reconstruction project to preserve the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse.
