Three Honorees Mark 75 Years of the National Trust for Historic Preservation

Benefit Gala recognizes Peter and Isabel Malkin, the publication VERANDA, and the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund for their contributions to preservation.

  • By: National Trust for Historic Preservation

In October, the National Trust for Historic Preservation was thankful to be gathered with friends at New York City’s historic Metropolitan Club to celebrate its 75th anniversary, and to build support for its preservation efforts around the country. Thanks to the generosity of more than 300 attendees and supporters, the Gala raised $2.0 million to advance the National Trust’s mission to protect places that shape our collective history and imagination.

The gala was presented by Visionary Partner American Express and was hosted by humorist and journalist, Mo Rocca. Chairs Phoebe and Bobby Tudor hosted the gala alongside Vice Chairs Christy Brown and the Honorable Tod Sedgwick, and Tracy and Senator Bill Frist; Honorary Co-Chair Bunny Williams; and Design Advisor Alex Papachristidis.

During the event we honored three extraordinary preservation champions—Peter and Isabel Malkin, the publication VERANDA, and the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund—each of whom demonstrates in their own spheres how preservation connects people, uplifts communities, and inspires a shared future.

Peter L. and Isabel Malkin

The National Trust honored the Malkin Family for their lifelong commitment to preserving some of the most iconic structures and landscapes in the United States, including New York City’s Empire State Building, and National Historic Landmark Lyndhurst, a National Trust Historic Site, Greenwich Historical Society’s National Historic Landmark Bush-Holley House, along with many other historic buildings and sites.

VERANDA

The National Trust honored VERANDA magazine for its commitment to sharing the important stories of preservation and drawing attention to the merits of preserving old houses-and old methods, designs, and materials for new houses.

African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund

As we look forward to the next 75 years, the National Trust felt it was important to recognize programs that have had a transformational impact on the way we do our work. And so, we honored the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund for its visionary and transformational investments to revitalize local economies and enrich the lives of all Americans by connecting us to our shared histories.
