The Montpelier Foundation Board Takes Important Action to Move Beyond Recent Conflict

The National Trust for Historic Preservation congratulates The Montpelier Foundation Board on the actions announced today to move beyond the recent crisis and re-establish their important work in partnership with the Montpelier Descendants Committee at this National Trust Historic Site. We look forward to working with the new board leadership, including Chair James French, Vice Chairs Stephanie Meeks and Hasan Kwame Jeffries, Secretary Joshua D. Rothman, and Treasurer Peter McHugh. The appointment of Dr. Elizabeth Chew as Interim president and CEO will also help to create needed stability and confidence in the future of the site, with her thirty years of experience in museums, including at Montpelier.

The National Trust looks forward to continuing to support the stewardship of Montpelier, including its collaborative interpretation as a historic site representing the intellectual foundations of our constitutional democracy intertwined with the history and legacies of slavery in America.
