Reviews

Glessner House, located in Chicago's Prairie Avenue Historic District, is a National Historic Landmark and the urban residential masterpiece of architect Henry Hobson Richardson. Completed in 1886, the innovative floor plan faces inward toward a spacious courtyard to capture the natural light, and cleverly separates the family rooms from those used by the live-in staff of eight. The rusticated exterior, a classic example of the Richardsonian Romanesque style, conceals a warm and inviting interior containing most of the family's original furniture and decorative arts, including important pieces by William De Morgan, William Morris, Isaac Scott, and many others.
