Robert Carter Burwell built Long Branch Plantation (ca. 1811), located in Millwood, Virginia, with the assistance of a local builder and with the advice of Benjamin Latrobe, one of the architects of the United States Capitol. Today, Long Branch Plantation is working to become the most accessible and cutting-edge historic home in America. The historic site, with its breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, preserves the over 200-year-old plantation home and 400 acres of rural Virginian farmland. Purchased in 1986 by Harry Z. Isaacs, the house underwent an extensive rehabilitation and, before his death, Isaacs created and endowed a foundation to ensure the preservation of the estate.
