The Warkentin House is a beautiful example of Queen Anne-style architecture that allows visitors to explore Victorian life on the Kansas plains. Built in 1887, the home of Bernard and Wilhelmina Warkentin offers a glimpse into family life with 80 percent of the original furnishings remaining in the house. Key features include Czechoslovakian crystal chandeliers, Lincrusta-Walton wainscoting, fine woodwork, and European tile throughout the home.

Interior details and décor in the home reflect Bernard Warkentin’s role in the agricultural history of Kansas. He played a key role in encouraging Mennonite immigrants to bring Turkey Red hard winter wheat to the state. This hardy, high-yield variety gave Kansas its enormous productivity and made the region the breadbasket of the world.

Come and sit a while on the beautiful wrap-around porch and enjoy learning more about the Warkentin family and their home. The museum is open weekends in spring and fall and Wednesday–Sunday in the summer. Special tours are available in the winter months by request.
