Protest the Bears Ears Management Plan

September 9, 2019

The Bureau of Land Management has released its final management plan and Environmental Impact Study for Bears Ears National Monument and it is terrible.

Our lawsuit challenging President Trump’s illegal rollback of the monument’s land area by approximately 85 percent is still pending. But the Bureau of Land Management is moving forward anyway—with a final management plan and Environmental Impact Study that only address the two smaller national monument units created by the Trump Administration.

This plan should not be finalized before the litigation is complete. Furthermore, the plan completely lacks appropriate measures to ensure protection of the vast cultural and historic resources that prompted national monument designation in the first place. This leaves the land vulnerable to threats like mining, oil and gas extraction, looting, and vandalism.

But all is not lost. The public comment period to weigh in on the plan is now open.

Join us in making a strong statement of support for protecting this cultural, historic, and sacred site from a fundamentally flawed and inadequate plan!
