The Flamingo Visitor Center, with its distinctive breezeway and pink exterior, has served as the gateway to Everglades National Park since the 1960s. Its design melds the Mission 66 Park Service modern style that transformed the National Parks System with the bold color palette, Keystone veneer, jalousie windows, and louvered screen walls of the South Florida architectural style known as Miami Modern.

One of the center’s buildings is currently used as a visitor center, museum, and ranger office, while the second building is vacant after suffering water damage during hurricanes Katrina and Wilma.

A $250,000 grant from Partners in Preservation: National Parks will restore the exterior of the visitor center, connecting a new generation of visitors to the unique site.
